As Catholic Health takes proactive steps to protect the health and safety of its patients, long-term care residents, and associates amid the growing coronavirus crisis, the health system announced enhanced visitor screenings at its member hospitals, including Mercy Hospital of Buffalo, Kenmore Mercy Hospital, Mount St. Mary's Hospital, and Sisters of Charity Hospital and its St. Joseph Campus.

Erie County Parks Department continues winter activities

Spring is approaching in Western New York but there are still a number of activities scheduled in Erie County Parks in the upcoming late-winter weeks. The Department of Parks, Recreation and Forestry announced three programs designed to be recreational and informative: "Signs of Change" at Chestnut Ridge, "Winter Tree ID" at Emery Park, and "Hemlock Woolly Adelgid Survey and Detection Training" at Emery Park.

Boating safety course

U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 3-1 will offer its "About Boating Safety" one-day class this spring and early summer in the River Region. He was one of a group of people who spoke at a public hearing at the Feb. 3 Grand Island Town Board meeting on a local law regulating aggressive panhandling on public property.

Drew Bernstein is a missionary at St. Luke's Mission of Mercy on Buffalo's East Side. He is also the coordinator of its Code Blue initiative when up to 50 cots and bedding are rolled out for homeless men to escape the winter cold at night when the temperatures are below freezing. It is a place where these men can obtain a hot meal and breakfast in the morning, dry their clothing and hopefully, a good night's sleep in a safe environment.

A countless number of Buffalo sports memorabilia meticulously fill every inch of the walls, ceiling and floor in the basement of John Boutet, sports archivist, author, athlete and a member of the Greater Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame Board of Directors and the BFLO Experience, which is looking for a large downtown space to house the Buffalo sports, broadcasters and music halls of fame.

Kearns reminded snowmobilers to register their sleds "locally" by mailing in their snowmobile registrations using the signature green "Renew Local" envelope, or at any Erie County Auto Bureau. Doing so will help keep a portion of the registration fee in Erie County.
