Per the Niagara County Sheriff's Office: On July 24 at 16:56 hours, the Niagara County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call of a possible boating accident. An occupant of a mid-size anchored vessel, just east of Gratwick Park, jumped off the vessel into the Niagara River for a swim. The male subject was quickly overtaken by the fast-moving current and went under the water for a short time.

Erie County District Attorney John Flynn announced all assistant district attorneys in his office will complete an implicit bias training course. The session will be provided virtually Wednesday afternoon by Buffalo City Court Judge Hon. The Erie County Department of Environment and Planning announced $1.5 million in Emergency Solutions Grant ("ESG") funds from the federal CARES Act is coming to Erie County to be used for emergency shelter services for the homeless and potentially homeless populations, along with $320,000 in federal Community Development Block Grant ("CDBG") funding from the federal CARES Act for local food pantry assistance, allowing much greater outreach into many of Erie County's rural areas.

Family Promise of Western New York, an emergency shelter for families experiencing homelessness, has completed critical upgrades to its shelter facility and is reopening for intakes in August with double the capacity. This reopening is in anticipation of predicted mass evictions in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic and unemployment throughout the region. Improvements include private family units, additional bathrooms and a fire safety system.

Independence Day will look a little different on Grand Island

The July 4th Independence Day holiday has traditionally been the day Town of Grand Island residents celebrate the community like few others in this country. It is a holiday they truly enjoy by inviting family and friends for activities from early morning to late evening when a spectacular fireworks show would light up the sky over the Island and even cause travelers along Interstate 190 to pull over in awe of the colorful displays.
Efforts underway to make Fantasy Island 'beautiful and fun again'

Bill Baldwin, a park entertainer for nearly 30 years who played Black Bart - among many roles - in the popular Western shows, proudly said he was shot and fell to the ground in Western Town 28,678 times during his Fantasy Island career. Upon hearing the park was closing, he contacted his friend, Jay Wilcox, a maintenance supervisor at the park for 20 years and now chief operating officer of Empire Adventures Inc. They began brainstorming about what it would take to bring the park back under local ownership and led by a team of former employees.
