The Erie County Department of Senior Services' "Stay-Fit Dining" program will visit the Clinton-Bailey Farmer's Market (1443 Clinton St., Buffalo) from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, to distribute Farmers Market coupons (a $20 value that may be used at area Farmer's Markets through Nov. 30) and other departmental information to seniors.

Congressman Brian Higgins, D-NY-26, toured Buffalo's William Street mail processing facility on Wednesday to get a first-hand look at the current state of U.S. Postal Service operations in Western New York. Erie County Clerk Michael Kearns is warning Erie County residents of a letter scam where a letter, purporting to be from an employee of the "Erie County Department of Equalization," demands further payment before the end of the month of transfer tax owed to the county upon conveyance of real property. This tax is paid to the county of Erie and state of New York at the time of a real estate closing.

The decision by Amazon and its developer, Trammell Crow Co., to withdraw its application to build a 3.8-million-square-foot national distribution center on a 145.4-acre site at 2780 Long Road on Grand Island, essentially came down to growing and potentially uncertain costs.
