The holiday season is quickly approaching and planning for the ninth annual Grand Island Light Up the Boulevard Electric Parade and Festival has been put on hold. The Grand Island Chamber is sad to announce the cancellation of the ninth annual Grand Island Light Up the Boulevard Electric Parade and Festival.

Buffalo Zoo announces new winter operating hours

Starting Monday, Nov. 16, the Buffalo Zoo will be closed to the public every Monday through Thursday, and open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. The new operating hours are a seasonal change for the venue and will last until March 28, 2021.

Applications for Home Energy Assistance Program ("HEAP") regular benefits will be accepted beginning Monday, Nov. 2. This year, in light of the virus-related risks related to public gatherings, the Erie County Department of Social Services is strongly encouraging applicants to apply online or to utilize other remote channels to apply. As in previous years, interested applicants are encouraged to apply sooner rather than later.

The Erie County Department of Social Services announced the allocation of Supplemental emergency allotments of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits for households receiving SNAP benefits in October 2020. DEC acquires 525 acres in Western New York for wildlife management

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation on Sunday announced the recent acquisition of 525 acres in the town of North Collins, Erie County, to create the Clear Lake Wildlife Management Area (WMA). The land offers hunting, fishing, trapping, wildlife viewing and other recreational opportunities and becomes the largest state-owned WMA in Erie County.

Visitors to the Fairgrounds Festival of Lights can plan ahead and purchase admission starting Nov. 1. Tickets can be purchased from any checkout register at all Tops Friendly Markets for $15 per vehicle or online at www.fairgroundsholiday.com until Dec. 31. It is one price for the entire vehicle to be admitted any one night to the festival. Admission must be purchased in advance, as tickets will not be sold at the gate.

Poloncarz presents 2021 Erie County proposed budget

Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz was joined Thursday by Director of the Erie County Office of Budget and Management Robert Keating to present his fiscal year 2021 proposed Erie County budget to the Erie County Legislature, acknowledging the fiscal pressures put on by the COVID-19 pandemic and outlining measures designed to bridge a resulting initial budget gap of nearly $82 million.
