As town supervisor of the Town of Grand Island, I cannot place my support behind the mandatory mask mandate issued by Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz. Personally, I wear a mask where required and support vaccinations. However, I feel that the mandate will damage our businesses by forcing our residents to cross the bridge to Niagara County, where the mandate doesn't exist.

Hochul announces comprehensive cleanup plans for former Lackawanna Bethlehem Steel site

Gov. Kathy Hochul announced the selection of final cleanup plans for the estimated $69 million remediation of the former Bethlehem Steel site in Lackawanna. The announcement builds on the progress already underway at the site, and construction to advance the cleanup plan is expected to begin next year. In addition to addressing sitewide contamination, the cleanup will provide public access to Lake Erie for the first time in more than 100 years.
