Jim Toellner inducted into Buffalo Broadcasters Association Hall of Fame

WGRZ-TV purchased two full pages in the Buffalo Broadcasters Association program book to congratulate Jim Toellner, its president and general manager for the past 16 years, on his recent Hall of Fame induction. On the first page, it reads: "Your Friends and Family From 2 WGRZ On Your Side Are So Proud of You, We Needed An Extra Page to Show Everyone!"
Mum exhibit, special admission offers planned at Botanical Gardens

The Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens announced its 119th mum exhibit will be held Oct. 5 through Nov. 3. A special" BuffaLove Dollar Day," in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, will take place Oct. 14. Buffalo Philharmonic subscribers receive buy one, get one admission to the Botanical Gardens on Oct. 18 in celebration of conductor JoAnn Falletta's 20th anniversary with the BPO.
Mary Dunbar-Daluisio Memorial Garden at Veterans Park

It started as a memorial bench, the Town of Grand Island Parks Department said. As donations started coming in from Mary Dunbar-Daluisio's friends, from near and far, through Relay For Life and the Grand Island community, the memorial began to grow.

Grand Island resident Jim Toellner, the president and general manager of WGRZ-TV Channel 2 since 2003, was among six inductees into the 2019 Buffalo Broadcasting Hall of Fame on Thursday, Sept. 19, in the studios of WNED-TV. He began at WGRZ-TV as its general sales manager in 2001.
Rotary Club of GI to host town supervisor Candidates Night

The Rotary Club of Grand Island will present its first Town of Grand Island Supervisor Candidates Night on Wednesday, Oct. 16, from 7-9 p.m. in the Grand Viking Theater of Grand Island High School, 1100 Ransom Road. The event is free and residents are encouraged to attend to learn about the three candidates for the town's highest elected office. The date gives voters plenty of time to decide before the state's first early election period that begins on Oct. 26. Election Day is Nov. 5.

The program seeks to promote public safety by allowing city residents to register their home and business surveillance cameras with the BPD to assist in solving crimes.

Preparation for the rehabilitation of Baseline Road on Grand Island has commenced, starting with a total shoulder reconstruction to help alleviate previous drainage issues that existed on the two-and-a-half-mile stretch being repaired by Erie County this year. According to Erie County Legislator Kevin Hardwick, who represents Grand Island in the Erie County Legislature, the portion from Whitehaven to East River will require decreased speed and additional caution while the work takes place.
