Just Buffalo Literary Center announced Ae Hee Lee as the 2023 poetry fellow. Arts Services Inc. (ASI) and Buffalo Common Council Member Joel P. Feroleto have announced the artists chosen to paint live mural art during the 2023 Hertel Alley Mural Fest, which will take place June 10-11. The festival is 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day, on Hertel Alley, which runs behind businesses from 1225 and 1301 Hertel Ave., in north Buffalo.

Gabby Bergstrom was a Grand Island High School sophomore in 2018 when she and fellow DECA members Luke Hess and Lauren Merletti were on a bus ride home from state competition. It was then they decided owning their own business could give them an edge in winning a state award. Using their cell phones to open craigslist, they found a hot dog stand at 1437 Ferry Road on the mighty Niagara River was available to rent.

Grand Island voters on Tuesday unofficially passed the $73,727,888 Grand Island Central School District budget for the 2023-24 school year. In addition, they approved a proposition to purchase five new vehicles for the school district (three 65-passenger buses, one 29-passenger bus, and two Ford F350 4x4 trucks for the Buildings and Grounds Department). Also, the voters approved the establishment of a new 15-year capital reserve fund to replace the fund that expired this year.

"HOPE Day," the annual 24-hour match challenge day of giving to benefit Appeal, brought in a record total of $507,456 toward this year's $9.5 million goal in support of Catholic Charities of Buffalo and the "Fund for the Faith." This total included $111,000 in matching funds from EnergyMark LLC and Thomann Asphalt Paving.

Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announced 39-year-old Edward T. Turner of Buffalo pleaded guilty this morning before Erie County Court Judge Sheila A. DiTullio to one count of attempted robbery in the first degree and one count of robbery in the second degree (class "C" violent felonies).

This program encourages shoppers to purchase a reusable bag with a special charity design for just $2.69, with $1 of the proceeds being donated back to five local community organization. James "Jimmy" J. Daluisio, 63, of Grand Island, gained his angel wings and was reunited with his wife, Mary, on May 9, 2023. His final days were spent in the comfort of his home surrounded by family and friends.

The Buffalo State University Foundation has established a 5.14 Memorial Scholarship designed to cover the cost of books and other educational supplies for Buffalo State students who hail from Buffalo's 14208 ZIP code.
