Intandem: Girl Scout donates habilitation supplies to people with disabilities

Local Girl Scout Julia Wasley just completed a Gold Award service project she titled "Craft Cupboard for Intandem," and donated her entire project to individuals with disabilities who attend the day-habilitation programs at Intandem in Niagara County.
Carnegie Art Center launches a 2021 calendar featuring artwork by 12 local artists

The Carnegie Art Center is selling printed 2021 calendars as a fundraiser. The calendars feature a different work of art for each month of the year created by 12 artists living and working in Western New York. Calendars can be pre-ordered on the center's website anytime and will be available for delivery and pick-up in mid-September. Sales from the calendars will support the Carnegie Art Center, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
Niagara County DMV to host Saturday event for driver's license renewals

Memorial names Wind head of sports medicine services

Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center has named William M. Wind Jr., M.D., F.A.O.O.S., to the post of medical director of sports medicine services. The appointment, which was announced by President and CEO Joseph A. Ruffolo, was effective Sept. 1.

North Tonawanda Fire Department receives grant for $174,600 to replace aging fire hoses

On Wednesday, Congressman Brian Higgins, North Tonawanda city officials and Fire Chief Joseph Sikora announced the North Tonawanda Fire Department was receiving a federal grant for $174,600 to replace its aging fire hoses and nozzles, as well as other critical equipment used in responding to mutual aid calls in neighboring districts.

Catholic Health and its foundations notified of nationwide data breach

In mid-July, Catholic Health and its foundations were notified by a third-party software vendor, Blackbaud Inc., of a cyber security breach that impacted the health system and other nonprofit organizations locally and throughout the country. The breach, which was part of a potential donor data base, included the names, medical record numbers, and dates of service for patients who received care in Catholic Health from 2016 through May of this year.

Since the audit's publication, some current and former officials have disputed some of the audit's findings and have elsewhere implied it had political motivations.

In an effort to attract more young people to the game of golf, the Niagara County Golf Course on Tuesday announced golfers who purchase a single round of golf can bring one child 17 years of age of younger to play with them for free. This promotion is offered after noon on weekends, only during nonschool hours during the week, and will last through the end of September. Tee times must be scheduled in advance and are subject to availability.

North Tonawanda Common Council: Braun appointed clerk/treasurer

On Tuesday, the North Tonawanda Common Council voted 3-1 to appoint current 2nd Ward Alderman Donna Braun as city clerk/treasurer. The position was vacated when then-city clerk/treasurer Matthew Parrish resigned on Aug. 9. Assistant City Clerk Lori Swartz has filled the position in the interim.
