Niagara County Legislature Chairwoman Becky Wydysh said registration is now open for the 20th annual Technology & Cybersecurity Forum, to be held from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20, at the Niagara Falls Convention Center, 101 Old Falls St. Organizers said the event attracts over 350 attendees each year.

Destination Niagara USA and the Niagara Falls Convention Center will welcome independent insurance agents and brokers for the "Big 'I' Fall Leadership Conference" from Sept. 11-19. The conference is expected to draw approximately 400 independent insurance agents and brokers from across the U.S. to Niagara Falls for educational seminars, networking opportunities and meetings at both the convention center and the Seneca Niagara Resort and Casino.

Senate Republican Leader Rob Ortt and New York State Sen. George Borrello stood with Assemblyman Mike Norris and Niagara County Farm Bureau President Jeanette Miller repeating calls on the Farm Labor Wage Board in Albany to reject a reduction of the overtime threshold from the current 60 hours to the proposed 40 hours.
DEC accepting waterfowl hunting permit lottery entries for duck hunting

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation is accepting entries for a special permit to hunt waterfowl at two popular wildlife management areas (WMAs) in Western New York. The special permit will allow for hunting on the first Saturday and first Sunday of the Western Zone duck season at Oak Orchard and Tonawanda WMAs. The WMAs are primarily in Genesee and Niagara counties, with a small portion in Orleans and Erie counties.

NFPD investigating shooting

Shortly after 1 a.m. this morning, the Niagara Falls Police Department responded to a report of shots fired in the 400 block of Ninth Street. Upon arrival, the officers found a 30-year-old male with a gunshot wound. Police immediately began to render aid to the victim before he was transported to Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center. Once there, he was pronounced deceased.
