Catholic Health received no penalties in the recently released Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services' (CMS) 2022 hospital-acquired condition (HAC) reduction program. For Catholic Health, the value-based incentive program includes patient data from Mercy Hospital of Buffalo, Sisters of Charity Hospital, Kenmore Mercy Hospital and Mount St. Mary's Hospital.

The Niagara Falls Fire Department responded to two fires over the weekend. On Friday, a call at 9:32 p.m. reporting a structure fire, at 764 16th St., resulted in firefighters finding a two-story wood structure fully engulfed in flames. Upon extinguishing the fire, crews entered the building and found it was clear. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

New York State Sen. Sean Ryan has declared his candidacy for reelection to New York's 60th Senate District. Ryan won the race for the seat in 2020 with 61% of the vote, winning the election by the greatest margin in the past decade - and flipping the district for the Democratic Party. Ryan previously served in the New York State Assembly, representing the 149th Assembly District from 2011-20.

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation on Thursday announced that, beginning Tuesday, Feb. 1, target shooting will be prohibited at Tonawanda Wildlife Management Area (WMA), located in DEC's regions 8 and 9. The closure will bring the WMA into compliance with recently adopted regulations for WMAs statewide that prohibit target shooting.

The Niagara County Department of Public Works on Thursday announced Tom Yeager, the longtime PGA golf pro at the Niagara County Golf Course in Lockport, will be retiring after two decades working for Niagara County and more than 40 years in the golf profession.
