Niagara County Legislator Tony Nemi announced there will be a paper-shredding event from 9-11 a.m. this Saturday, Aug. 26, at Pendleton Town Hall. The event is open to all Niagara County residents; no registration is required.

Niagara County Legislature Will Collins, chairman of the infrastructure committee, today announced three upcoming road closures as the Department of Public Works undertakes several culvert replacement projects this fall. The three culvert replacements were bid as one project, with Edbauer Construction submitting the lowest bid.

David Whalen, Niagara University's first/emergency responder disability awareness training project director and ADA coordinator, was a featured presenter at Crisis Intervention Team International's annual conference, "Improving Crisis Response Systems," Aug. 14-16 in Detroit. This was the third consecutive year Whalen presented at this conference.

On Saturday morning at approximately 4:20 a.m., Niagara Falls Police responded to a shooting that occurred in the 400 block of Fourth Street. Two adult males were transported to Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center in private vehicles suffering from gunshot wounds. One of the victims was pronounced dead at the hospital. The other victim was stabilized and transported to ECMC where he is in critical condition.

Niagara County District Attorney Brian D. Seaman announced that Gilbert Cruz, age 35, of Niagara Falls, plead guilty this morning to the charge of murder in the second degree. Cruz admitted to murdering 57-year-old Timothy Weymer in Niagara Falls on Feb. 7, 2022.
