After a three-year hiatus, the Jack Beatty Memorial Hospice Cruise and Clambake celebrated a big homecoming on Friday, July 14.The longtime fundraiser raised $48,000 for Niagara Hospice, continuing its tradition of hosting a unique fundraiser for a cause so special to many in the community.

Niagara County Sheriff Michael J. Filicetti announced the continued multisite expansion of the Niagara County Public Safety Radio Network has been completed. This latest expansion includes tower sites in the towns of Wheatfield, Wilson and Somerset. These sites were selected to enhance coverage areas for the digital radio system, which is utilized by police, fire, EMS and other government agencies in Niagara County.

Shortly after 9 p.m. last night, the Niagara Falls Police Department responded to a home in the 500 block of 20th Street for a report of a man shot. Upon arrival, officers located a 23-year-old from Niagara Falls suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Now in its 95th year, the Niagara Falls Fire Department Toy Fund is an annual tradition to raise money for the purpose of providing Christmas toys for those in need. In an effort to support this cause, Destination Niagara USA has designed a new commemorative ornament for 2023 with 100% of the profits benefitting the toy fund.

At 1:52 a.m. Saturday, Niagara County Sheriff's Office patrol attempted to initiate a traffic stop for speed in the 4700 block of Tonawanda Creek Road. A white BMW sedan was observed traveling 91 MPH in the 45 MPH zone. Patrols could not safely catch up to the vehicle and the area was checked.

Niagara Falls has a new hub for locals and tourists alike. Vortex VR Arcade, located on the third floor of the One Niagara Welcome Center at 360 Rainbow Blvd., held its grand opening Sunday with a Halloween party. As part of the opening ceremony, Mayor Robert Restaino cut the ribbon, officially opening the facility.

Town of Niagara Active Hose was the scene of a mega meat and basket raffle to benefit Francis Center, a ministry of the Sisters of St. Francis at Stella Niagara.
