Quinn Hurley of Starpoint High School and Matthew Long of Lewiston-Porter High School were named winners of the 57th Thomas E. Hewitt Scholar/Athlete Awards. Each received a $2,500 scholarship. The awards were presented by the board of associates of Mount St. Mary's Hospital in a ceremony held at the Niagara Frontier Golf Club. The program was sponsored by the Mount St Mary's Hospital Foundation.

Acting Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane announced Ernest B. Green Jr., 41, of Buffalo, and Daniel Rodriguez, 41, of Buffalo, were sentenced this morning before State Supreme Court Justice M. William Boller to 75 years to life in prison.

At the Grand Island Memorial Library, approximately 300 voters come in Tuesday to cast ballots. Voter turnout was steady all day, unlike the presidential primary, when approximately 50 people came to vote. People who live in two election districts vote at the library. The districts were recently renumbered, although no district boundaries were changed.
