New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Commissioner Basil Seggos announced the fishing season for northern pike, pickerel, tiger muskellunge and walleye opens on May 1. Fishing regulation changes implemented earlier this year replaced the floating "Saturday" season openers with a fixed date, in addition to other improvements to enhance fishing opportunities across the state.

The New York State Department of Transportation advised motorists the intersection of Niagara Falls Boulevard (U.S. Route 62) at Erie Avenue and Shawnee Road (State Route 425) in the City of North Tonawanda will be closed to traffic beginning at 8 a.m. Monday, May 9. The closure is necessary to facilitate repairs to the railroad crossing by CSX, and is expected to last three days - weather permitting.

Upon arrival, the male subject allegedly barricaded himself within the caller's residence while refusing to comply with deputies' requests to speak with him and exit the residence.

Update to fatal MVA in Wheatfield

On Wednesday morning, the Niagara County Sheriff's Office responded to a car vs. motorcycle accident in front of 2546 Niagara Falls Blvd., in the Town of Wheatfield. Upon arrival of deputies, it was observed the motorcycle was laying in the street behind a white SUV. The operator of the motorcycle was laying nearby. Both vehicles were in the northbound left lane.

This event gives students an opportunity to display and explain a project connected to a classroom experience under the guidance of a faculty mentor.
