Kathy Hochul announced state parks, historic sites, campgrounds and trails operated by the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation saw a record 84.1 million visits in 2023. Total visits statewide surged by nearly 4.7 million, a 6% increase, compared to the previous record year in 2022.

The Mental Health Association in Niagara County will host a meat raffle fundraiser on Saturday, March 23, at the St. Johnsburg Firehall, 7165 Ward Road, North Tonawanda. Doors open at 5:45 p.m., with the first round starting at 6:30 p.m. Proceeds from the sales will go toward programming and services for those living with a mental health diagnosis in Niagara County.

Attempted murder nets guilty plea in Niagara County

Niagara County District Attorney Brian D. Seaman announced Kalique Miller, age 19, of Niagara Falls, entered a guilty plea today in County Court to the charges of attempted murder in the second degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree. Miller admitted to shooting a 22-year-old woman multiple times in the Falls on Nov. 10, 2022.

On Monday at 2:29 a.m., Niagara County emergency communications received a 911 call stating a structure, located at 2521 Niagara Falls Blvd., had flames coming from the exterior of the residence. Responding police and volunteer fire units arrived on scene and observed that the exterior of the home was, in fact, engulfed in flames.

Manslaughter leads to 17-year prison term

Niagara County District Attorney Brian D. Seaman announced Michael Hamilton, age 38, of Niagara Falls, was sentenced this morning to a term of 17 years in State Prison. Hamilton pled guilty in November of last year to manslaughter in the first degree for the death of Jason Chapman on Pine Ave in Niagara Falls on July 12, 2022.
