Old Falls Street USA accepting vendor applications for summer

Old Falls Street USA, the three-block entertainment district that connects Niagara Falls State Park with hotels and attractions in downtown Niagara Falls, is calling for local food vendors for the 2024 summer season (May through September).

United Way of Greater Niagara is proud to share that it has been accepted into Little Free Library's Read in Color spring 2024 cohort. UWGN will be the first Read in Color program provider in New York state outside of New York City.
Mother Cabrini Health Foundation awards $2.125M to Catholic Health to support emergency services, community outreach

Catholic Health has received two grants from the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation totaling $2,125,000. The larger of the two grants - $2,000,000 - will help fund two new CT scanners for Mercy Hospital of Buffalo's busy emergency department (ED), which serves nearly 25,000 patients each year. The remaining $125,000 will support ongoing medical outreach to Buffalo's westside community.
Niagara County Department of Health offering free chronic pain self-management workshop

The Niagara County Department of Health nursing division, in partnership with the Niagara County Office for the Aging, is offering a free chronic pain self-management workshop. The six-week workshop starts Feb. 26 and is scheduled for 1-3:30 p.m. Mondays at the Dale Association, 33 Ontario St., Lockport.

Mayor Austin Tylec announced a state of emergency has been declared in the City of North Tonawanda, effective 2:30 p.m. He said this action "has been declared to respond effectively to winter storm conditions that threatens the public safety of the citizens of North Tonawanda."
Seaman announces murder conviction

Niagara County District Attorney Brian D. Seaman announced that Shaquan Gibson, age 49, of Niagara Falls, was sentenced to a combined 65 years to life, the maximum possible sentence, for his conviction of the murder of 24-year-old Cyjear Betton in May of 2022, in Niagara Falls, and related crimes.
SBA disaster loan program activated in New York by drought

The U.S, Small Business Administration (SBA) announced federal Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDLs) are available in New York for small businesses, small agricultural cooperatives, small businesses engaged in aquaculture, and most private nonprofit organizations with economic losses due to drought that began June 13, 2023.

EPA: Allied Waste resolves clean air act violations at its Niagara Falls landfill

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has reached a settlement with Allied Waste Niagara Falls Landfill LLC (Allied) for violating the federal Clean Air Act at its landfill in Niagara Falls. Under the proposed settlement, Allied will pay a $671,000 penalty and operate a gas collection and control system to reduce the amount of harmful chemicals, primarily methane, as well as other harmful organic compounds, released into the air.

Residential house fire in Town of Cambria

On Jan. 8, at approximately 7:33 p.m., the Niagara County Sheriff's Office communication center received a 911 call reporting a possible house fire at 3824 N. Ridge Road. Personnel and equipment from the Cambria Volunteer Fire Co. arrived on scene and confirmed a working fire on the second floor of the residence.

Mount St. Mary's Hospital (MSMH) announced its Center for Sports Medicine & Physical Rehabilitation, now located at 1 Columba Drive No. 5 in Niagara Falls, will be moving on Jan. 15. The new department will relocate to the campus of Mount St. Mary's Hospital, 5300 Military Road, Lewiston, with the services located at the hospital's north lobby entrance.
Catholic Health offers free lung cancer screening at multiple sites throughout Western New York

Lung cancer is the deadliest cancer in the U.S. Since lung tissue has no nerves, people often do not experience pain or symptoms until the cancer has reached an advanced stage. However, if lung cancer is diagnosed at an early stage, the cure rate can be as high as 92%. That's why adults who are at high risk for lung cancer should undergo an annual lung cancer screening, which includes a low-dose CT scan.
Sheep captured in Niagara Falls
