Special Olympics returned to Niagara University campus

After three years, due to COVID-19 and renovations to its recreation center, Niagara University once again hosted the Special Olympics New York's Western Regional Basketball Tournament on its campus. The tournament took place Saturday, April 22, in the university's Kiernan Recreation Center.
Niagara County clerk issues final call for Purple Heart veterans to be included in August ceremony

Niagara County Clerk Joseph A. Jastrzemski said Niagara County will once again honor Purple Heart veterans by adding their name to county's Book of Honor at a ceremony to be held Sunday, Aug. 6. Jastrzemski said any Purple Heart veterans (or their family members) who are not currently in the book need to come forward by May 1 to be included in this year's ceremony.
EPIC receives $1.8 million to open family opportunity centers in 2 counties

EPIC-Every Person Influences Children has received support from the Office of Children and Family Services Family Opportunity Center. EPIC was awarded $1.8 million in funding over the next three years to open centers in Niagara and Cattaraugus counties.

(NORLIC) - often referred to as the Land Bank - has been awarded a $1.4 million grant by the New York State Housing Trust Fund Corp. and NYS Homes and Community Renewal. During the spring 2022 semester, several NCCC students from professor Marc Pietrzykowski's writing for STEM class completed a group research project about waste management at NCCC. Inspired, one of the group members, Meredith Preve, lifted the words from their paper and molded them into a new, hands-on project at the college.

Sheriff Michael J. Filicetti announced Niagara County law enforcement agencies will participate in a special effort to bring awareness to the dangers of impaired driving. Law enforcement officers across New York state will take to the roads in a combined effort to stop impaired driving, prevent injuries and save lives. The statewide STOP-DWI high-visibility engagement campaign efforts start Thursday, April 20, and will end Friday, April 21.
