Kiwanis Club supports Artpark 'Family Movie Night'

Artpark & Company's "Family Movie Night" series celebrates its 10th year as a popular summer tradition in 2017. The August event is attended by several hundred families, and typically features Academy Award-winning movies for free viewing in Artpark's Outdoor Amphitheater.

The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation on Monday work to replace deteriorated playgrounds at Whirlpool and DeVeaux State parks is currently underway, and Reservoir State Park will be the new home to an outdoor gym and fitness trail.

Deputy Treasurer Edward Walker had welcome news for the Village of Lewiston Board of Trustees on Monday. Thanks to an increase in property assessments, trustees can maintain the current tax rate - $7.38 per $1,000 of assessed valuation - and use less of the municipality's reserves.

Lewiston Public Library to get new roof

Work is expected to begin Tuesday, April 18, on a $160,000 project to replace the two main roofs on the Lewiston Public Library. Progressive Roofing Inc. of Buffalo, the low bidder on the project, anticipates completing the work in about three weeks.

The New York State Department of Health and the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS) have approved the plans by Mount St. Mary's Hospital to expand its inpatient chemical dependency rehabilitation service, known as Clearview Treatment Services.

Artpark & Company has announced four more concerts coming to the Outdoor Amphitheater stage as part of its "KeyBank presents Tuesdays in the Park" series: Canadian Hall of Fame: Randy Bachman and 54•40; Brian Setzer's 'Rockabilly Riot!' with special guest Big Bad Voodoo Daddy; George Thorogood & The Destroyers and 38 Special; and Lynyrd Skynyrd. Trustees in the Village of Lewiston have met twice with Deputy Treasurer Edward Walker, and are finalizing a budget proposal for the 2017-18 fiscal year. As it stands now, the property tax rate is set to increase 8 cents, from $7.38 per $1,000 of assessed valuation to $7.46.

Bring your dog and a donation of at least $10 to Fort Niagara State Park (Main Street in Youngstown; south entrance, Shelter 1A) at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 15, for a dog "Easter Egg Hunt for a Cure." Each dog will search for treat-filled eggs, with some containing prizes.
