The Niagara River Region Chamber of Commerce announced its holiday events for 2019 that will bring the community together.

Chamber of Commerce staffers invite the public to participate in Small Businesses Saturday, and then the Lewiston Christmas Walk and Tour of Homes.

Small Business Saturday, Nov. 30, is about buying local. This day encourages customers to support local restaurants and shops.

Chamber President Jennifer Pauly said, “This is good for the businesses to start off the holiday shopping.”

She explained, “The Niagara River Region Chamber of Commerce has joined the Small Business Saturday Coalition and, together with American Express, support this year’s Small Business Saturday celebration, which takes place on Nov. 30. Small Business Saturday is a day dedicated to supporting the independent businesses that make our communities unique and provide invaluable contributions to our economy.”

Starting at 10 a.m., the chamber will have a tent outside the KeyBank branch on Center and South Fifth streets. Staff will hand out $15 gift cards for the first 50 people to use at area small businesses. Free canvas bags will be given to the first 100 shoppers, along with a listing of promotions from member businesses. Complimentary coffee and doughnuts also will be provided.

A list of all the promotions for Small Business Saturday can be found here: https://niagarariverregion.com/news-and-events/events/small-business-saturday/.

Both the Christmas Walk and Tour of Homes will take place on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 7 and 8. This kicks off the holiday season with Santa flying into Lewiston and landing in Academy Park between 11:15 and 11:30 a.m. Santa will then ride down Center Street to the International Peace Garden. After visiting Santa, families can head on down to see the animals at the petting zoo in Hennepin Park.

Pauly said, “No other town has Santa come into the festival on a helicopter. It’s always a cool thing; it never gets old. It’s cool and unique to our community.”

Adults can enjoy the beautifully decorated stores on Center Street and embrace the unique charm of the Village of Lewiston.

Also that weekend, the Tour of Homes is the Historical Association of Lewiston’s signature fundraiser. Funds are used to preserve and promote Lewiston’s rich heritage.

Tickets are $25 and are available on the HAL website: http://www.lewistonhometour.com/.
