In what could only be described as a sight straight out of a Food Network kitchen, The Stone House was filled with delicious desserts of every shape, size, texture and taste on Thursday night. The occasion was a ribbon-cutting for Just Desserts by Aimee – which is kitty-corner to the Lewiston wine bar. Friends and family looked on with awe at the picturesque pastries, precisely piled on serving plates.

After preparing from-scratch desserts from her home for 11 years, owner/pastry chef Aimee Loughran opened on Center Street earlier this year.

“I’m a commercial kitchen space. I am not retail, so everything is custom-order,” Loughran said. “My specialty is customized cakes. I do a lot of catering. I do a lot of dessert tables, catering events, birthdays, all types of showers, weddings. Weddings is a big thing that I picked up in this space.”

No sooner did the Culinary Institute graduate transform what was office space into a dessert destination, then the community came calling.

“Put it this way: I should have hired somebody in June when I opened up (laughs),” Loughran said. “It’s been nonstop – the phone’s been ringing nonstop.

“There’s definitely a demand for more desserts, I think, in Lewiston – and especially someone who is custom. I’m one of everything. I’m the owner; I’m the baker; I’m the decorator; I’m the wedding coordinator. I do everything. I do it all. So, when people come to me, they don’t just … go into a bake shop and get six different people. They’re getting me; they’re getting one person. My business is a little more intimate rather than a bakery. I think that’s what people love and appreciate.”

The Niagara River Region Chamber of Commerce organized the ribbon-cutting event. President Jennifer Pauly said, “The kitchen is beautiful. It is state-of-the-art. It is customized to exactly what Aimee wants to make sure that she is able to create the most beautiful desserts and cakes you can ever see. They’re just beautiful.”

Assemblyman Angelo Morinello described Loughran’s desserts as “spectacular,” and said he expects she will have more locations in the future.
