Artpark's production of "The Odyssey" lived up to billing on Sunday, as the Mainstage Theater show delivered on what the visual and performing arts company promised: Broadway professionals telling the tale of Odysseus and Penelope; grand props, including a spinning stage and a giant monster; members of the community joining together to serve as the people of Ithaca; and even a couple of Easter eggs, in the form of cameos from local celebrities and groups.
In addition, the children actors of the Artpark Theater Academy proved their mettle - and demonstrated the fruit of work they put in over the past month.
All in all, the many pieces fit together - which was a question coming into the presentation. But the pros, the semi-pros and the amateurs meshed surprisingly well, and the show was on par with Artpark's past adult theatrical productions.
"The Odyssey" starred Terence Archie as Odysseus and Courtney Balan as Penelope/Circe. It was directed by Roger Danforth. The show debuted on Saturday and staged a second show on Sunday.
