"Calling all farmers, veterans and flag carriers of our great United States of America. It's that time of year again and we need you!"
Organizer Ruth Anne Buzzard invites all to join in the annual Ransomville Flag Day Parade and Community Faire to celebrate "Farmers Feed America" in Ransomville. This celebration of farming and its significant role in America will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 9, starting at the American Legion O. Leo Curtiss No. 830 Post, 2589 Youngstown Lockport Road.
The Ransomville Flag Day Parade committee staunchly supports the Niagara farming community. This event will serve as a tribute to farmers as well as a kick-off to the daylong Community Faire celebrations.
"This 'Farmers Feed America' agenda is a big 'thank you' to all farmers and veterans who work extremely hard to feed and protect our American freedom while we sleep," Buzzard said. "So many young people do not know where their food comes from, or how hard it is to farm."
There will be approximately 40 different organizations participating in this year's parade, led by American Legion Post No. 830. Joining in will be the Sanborn Fire Co. Band, the Renegades Drum Line from Lancaster, and the Prime Time Brass Band out of Rochester.
The parade will feature area children with their Peter Rabbit float, veterans, a number of farmers and farm equipment, military vehicles, the Dog Tags of Western New York, Mercy Flight and the Ransomville Volunteer Fire Co.
Also on June 9, the Ransomville Community Faire will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 3733 Ransomville Road, behind the Ransomville Free Library. Opening ceremonies for all other events begin at noon.
Community Faire happenings include music by Marsha Jones; entertainment by the Hot Country Line Dancers; a food tent; a basket auction in the Ransomville Historical Room; the Garden Club plant sale; a community book sale; children's games and visits by Charlie and Checkers; vendor sales; 50/50 raffles; appearances by Mercy Flight and the Niagara County Sheriff's Office K-9 Unit; displays of tractors and antique vehicles on the grounds.
Complete event information is available by visiting American Legion O. Leo Curtiss Post 830, Ransomville, NY, on Facebook.
