'In the Loop' with the Lewiston-Porter Board of Education

By Jodee Riordan

Board of Education President

The Lewiston-Porter Board of Education will meet this Tuesday with a full agenda. In addition to our regular business, appointments and policy discussion, the board will celebrate our building custodians (and their fearless leader, Director of Facilities Paul Feathers), for their efforts - above and beyond - to get our schools ready in the midst of the completion of the capital project.

We will also honor "Jump Rope for Heart" participants from the PEC and IEC. Presentations will include principals Julie Gajewski and Tamara Larson presenting the elementary state and local data, Curriculum Director Andy Krazmien presenting the new professional development plan, and the team from the IEC presenting the new report card.

Join us at 6 p.m. in the boardroom!

What you need to know this week to be "In the Loop":

•Superintendent Paul Casseri will launch his "Community Coffee Hour" on Monday at Orange Cat Coffee Co. on Center Street in Lewiston. Stop by for a cup and a chat! Casseri will host the coffee hour from 4:30-5:30 p.m. on the third Monday of each month (see the schedule on our home page).

•Primary Education Center Parent Night/Open House is Thursday, beginning at 6 p.m. The evening includes the mandatory parent volunteer training, as well as a Chiavetta's chicken dinner.

•The Academy of International Business and Finance will host the Niagara River Region Chamber of Commerce business "Blender" from 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Niagara Falls Country Club. Leslie Zemsky of Larkin Development Group will be the guest speaker.

Tickets are $10 presale or $15 at the door, and sponsorship opportunities are available. Contact the high school or the chamber or tickets.

•High school photos are Wednesday and Thursday. As this corresponds (or conflicts) with Spirit Week, please note picture retake day is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 26.

Elite Image Photography will be at the high school from 9 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Wednesday to photograph seniors who not have their portraits taken over the summer, or who need retakes. The photographer will be in the high school auditorium. Seniors can stop down at any point during the day.

Middle school picture day was moved to Friday, Sept. 30 (to not capture students on "Green & White Day"). Elementary pictures will be taken Tuesday, Oct. 4, at the IEC and Thursday, Oct. 6, at the PEC.
