Joseph Pillittere Jr. honored his late mother Monday by giving away free Silo Restaurant hot dogs. Pillittere's late mother, Joan, was an ardent fan of the popular summer food.
"Some people want steak and lobster, but Joan loved hot dogs," he said after her passing. "I guess that could be because hot dogs are usually associated with family gatherings and parties. Our family gatherings were always fun-filled times that reinforced the importance of being a family. In fact, we always had to go for a hot dog after shopping for hours."
Hot dog lovers were encouraged to make a donation to Hospice House, which had a booth set up next to the grill.
The Silo sold 500 hot dogs to Pillittere at cost, donated free drinks, and lent staff to prepare the hot dogs.
