Artpark announces opening concerts for popular summer series

Who's ready for summer? Artpark's 40th anniversary season is shaping up to be an eclectic celebration of art, theater, family, fun - and let's not forget the music. The popular summertime venue announced that rocker Billy Idol will ignite the summer concert season on June 4, kicking off "First Niagara presents Tuesday in the Park."

Joan Jett and the Blackhearts are slated to take the Outdoor Amphitheater stage on June 11.

Tickets for both events go on sale Friday, March 15, at 10 a.m. "Tuesday in the Park" tickets will be available in person at the Artpark Box Office (Monday to Friday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.), by phone at 716-754-4375 or 1-888-223-6000, and online at www.tickets.com and www.artpark.net.

From punk pioneer to global superstar, Billy Idol has created an unparalleled niche in popular music.

He is the original punk rocker who long ago found a way to take that sneering punk attitude into the pop and rock mainstream, carving out songs that have lasted a lifetime - including "Rebel Yell," "Mony Mony" and "White Wedding."

Joan Jett and the Blackhearts have become a permanent force in mainstream music culture with eight platinum and gold albums and nine Top 40 singles, including the classics "Bad Reputation," "I Love Rock N Roll" and "I Hate Myself For Loving You." General admission tickets for Billy Idol are $10 in advance and $15 when purchased the week of the show (Sunday, June 2-Tuesday, June 4). General admission tickets for Joan Jett and the Blackhearts are $5 in advance and $10 when purchased the week of the show (Sunday, June 9-Tuesday, June 11). A limited number of $25 priority "Front of Stage" tickets are available for both shows.

Miller Lite is the "Featured Act Sponsor" for the 12-week "TIP" concert series.

Artpark's complete 40th anniversary season lineup will be announced on April 24.
