>>Download a copy of the Thruway Authority plan
Assemblyman John D. Ceretto, R-I-Lewiston, an outspoken opponent of the New York Thruway Authority's plan to raise tolls by 45 percent on commercial trucks, applauded the Thruway Authority's board for averting the hike after implementing several cost-saving measures.
"The toll hike would have been bad for our small businesses and farmers, who would have seen drastic increases in costs. Additionally, the increased tolls would have sent the wrong message to companies interested in moving to New York or increasing their business' presence here," Ceretto said Monday. "I commend all the local businesses and farmers who joined me in speaking out against this plan; and while I commend the Thruway Authority on finally acting responsibly, these new cost-saving measures, not toll hikes, should have been proposed first and not seen as a last-ditch option."
