Starting next month, the Village of Lewiston Board of Trustees will have two new members. Democrat Dennis Brochey (197 votes) and Republican Nick Conde (129 votes) bested incumbents Ernie Krell (Republican, 79 votes) and Therese Mudd (Democrat, 74 votes) in Tuesday's election.

"I'm surprised," said Brochey, owner of Brochey's Automotive on Center Street. "I expected a close race. I actually expected it to be a lot closer than it was. But I'm happy with the outcome. Raring to go."

It was a quiet election day in the village, with less than 500 total votes cast. All four candidates ran cordial campaigns, with nary a negative word spoken.

"I feel good about it," said Conde, the former village zoning officer. "It was closer than I thought it was going to be. I feel bad for the people getting out.

"I'm ready to start and get going on it."

Both men are eager to begin serving their four-year terms.

"We've got to dig into it," Conde said.

"I have some plans that I'm hoping, if the board listens to me, that I think we can actually lower the taxes a little bit here and there," Brochey said. "There are other plans; I'll get into those later on as I get more accustomed to how things work with the rest of the crew there.

"I think it's going to be a bigger and better board than ever before."

Brochey and Conde will be sworn in on Monday, July 2. They will join Mayor Terry Collesano and trustees Bruce Sutherland and Vic Eydt on the Village of Lewiston Board.
