Change in the air at Holiday Inn Grand Island

The Holiday Inn Grand Island invited Islanders to a coming out party Tuesday to show off the hotel's new look.

Shaun Craig, general manager at Holiday Inn Grand Island, said the changes at 100 Whitehaven Road are more than just cosmetic. Though the whole hotel has undergone an upgrade in decor, the revamping of the Holiday Inn is a restructuring of the way the staff is trained and the way guest service is handled as well.

Visitors won't have to look very hard to see the improvements, Craig said.

"If you couldn't see a thing, you'd still know that there's a change," Craig said.

Throughout the Holiday Inns in the country, there is a re-launch where everything is refreshed, the guest service is revisited and revamped, he explained.

"But with regard to this hotel, it's very specific. Each hotel is different," Craig said. "This hotel has a lot of history on the Island."

The Island experience, and the mixer held in the Niagara Room of the Holiday Inn on Dec. 13 to show off the new look, is an effort to reintroduce the hotel to the locals, Craig added.

"I would like for the locals to come back to the hotel," Craig said. "We have a great dining facility, we have a great lounge, we have great banquet space, we do wonderful weddings, and I want the locals to understand that."

"The new attitude is an attitude of excitement and service excellence," Craig said. "We're striving to provide the best possible guest service experience for any guest that comes here to the hotel, whether it be in one of our outlets - restaurant or bar - or whether they are an in-house guest with one of our rooms."
