United Way of Buffalo & Erie County's 'Day of Caring' returns June 21

After a three-year hiatus, “Day of Caring,” United Way of Buffalo & Erie County’s (UWBEC) largest single-day volunteer event, returns June 21.

A press release stated, “The event, sponsored by Wegmans, HSBC and Delaware North, will mobilize over 2,000 people in support of nonprofit organizations across Erie County. Nearly 1,400 volunteers have already raised their hands to be part of the day, but many opportunities to participate are still available.”

“Day of Caring” volunteer registration is open now on www.VolunteerWNY.org. Individuals and teams can choose from over 100 projects based on their interests and skills. For the first time, volunteers can sign up directly for the “Day of Caring” project of their choice through the online platform.

“But volunteering on June 21 isn’t the only way to be part of ‘Day of Caring,’ ” the press release noted. “United Way’s popular ‘Community Baby Shower’ is now an official ‘Day of Caring’ project. Also new this year: Volunteers and community members can sign up as ‘Day of Caring Crowdfunding Champions.’ Proceeds from this peer-to-peer campaign will benefit both United Way and project host nonprofit organizations.”

“We are so excited to offer more ways than ever for people to be part of United Way’s ‘Day of Caring,’ ” said Trina Burruss, president and CEO of United Way of Buffalo & Erie County. “Whether you’re ready to roll up your sleeves on June 21st, host a ‘Community Baby Shower’ to provide critical baby items for families in need, or raise funds and awareness through the ‘Day of Caring’ crowdfunding campaign, there is a way for everyone to show our community what caring looks like this June.”
