Carnegie Art Center invites members to art exhibition and appreciation event

Opening reception of art exhibition is Saturday, June 3; members appreciation event is Saturday, June 17

The Carnegie Art Center in North Tonawanda will present its annual members exhibition June 3-30.

A press release stated, “This exhibition is an opportunity for members of the organization to submit up to two pieces of artwork to be on display in the center’s two gallery spaces The Carnegie will accept a diverse array of artwork – painting, drawing, photography, collage, sculpture, video and printmaking. Artists in all stages in their career are welcome to participate.

“All Carnegie artist members in good standing are welcome to participate. Membership may be renewed during drop off. Participants may sign up as a member at the drop off date or sign up on their website at carnegieartcenter.org anytime. Members enjoy benefits throughout the year including our members exhibition, member appreciation events, discounts on classes, events and more.”

Artists may submit their artwork between 3-8 p.m. Thursday, June 1. Carnegie staff and volunteers will be there to greet artists, check membership status and answer questions.

The reception for the art exhibition will take place from 1-4 p.m. Saturday, June 3. The reception and the center’s gallery hours are free to attend, and are open to the public. This is a juried exhibition with awards. Alicia Malik will serve as juror.

Malik received her BFA in painting from Daemen College in 2012 and has been an active member in the Buffalo Arts community. From 2010-14 she interned in CEPA Gallery and eventually picked up a position as a teaching artist in the space. Malik was additionally a resident of 464 Gallery from 2012-16, acting as both art studios manager and gallery assistant director. 

As a painter, she has shown her work in a large collection of Buffalo galleries, including Hallwalls, BT&C, Buffalo Arts Studio, and Big Orbit. In the years prior to starting at The Crucible Art Collective, Malik organized and curated a series of pop-up art shows around the city, introducing the community to spaces that were once left abandoned. In June of 2019, she moved into the position of curator and gallery director at The Crucible Art Collective.

The Carnegie Art Center will also host a Members Appreciation event from 5-7 p.m. Saturday, June 17.

The press release said, “All current or prospective members are welcome to attend. The members appreciation event will feature a cocktail hour on the grounds of the Center. Attendees can enjoy complimentary beverages, light music, make-or-take petite bouquets from The Frase Farm sponsored by North Tonawanda Garden Walk, and the members show on display. In the event of inclement weather, all amenities will be indoors.
