Applications now open for homemade kielbasa entries

Buffalo’s Best Kielbasa contest is back to crown the best homemade sausage makers in Western New York. The culinary showdown takes place at high noon on Saturday, April 8, at Flying Bison Brewing Co. – kicking off the “Pils, Pierogi & Polka” event.

Only homemade entries will qualify (no commercial entrants). The competition is broken down into the following categories:

√ Fresh traditional

√ Smoked traditional

√ Fresh holiday (with marjoram)

√ Smoked holiday (with marjoram)

√ Nontraditional

A panel of judges will pick the best in each category. Winners will receive a prize package, and all entrants will receive a pair of tickets for the “Pils, Pierogi & Polka” event – which features a performance by Those Idiots and drinks by Flying Bison. Applications are available by emailing [email protected] or going to www.facebook.com/buffalobestkielbasa. Applications are due March 24.

“Making kielbasa during the Easter season is an important Polish family tradition,” organizer Tod A. Kniazuk said. “It’s an honor to have so many folks willing to share that with us.”

New this year, Bacik will be on site with free samples for those in attendance.

Buffalo’s Best Kielbasa Contest is presented with the support of Fillmore District Common Council Member Mitch Nowakowski, Bacik, Flying Bison Brewing Co., and The Big Easy in Buffalo.
