Golden Age Center

• Do you have concerns about falling? The Golden Age Center is hosting a class titled "A Matter of Balance" from 1-3 p.m. Thursdays. The next session will be held March 23. The program emphasizes practical strategies to manage falls. Call the Golden Age Center at 716-773-9682 for more information or to sign up.

•The Golden Age Center is looking to add a pinochle group. If you are interested in participating or would like to learn this card game, please call Carrie at 773-9682.

•The Golden Age Center is collecting trial-sized or hotel shampoos, conditioners, bath/shower gel, toothpaste and toothbrushes it will use to pack toiletry bags for Friends of Night People. Donations can be dropped off during operating hours of 8 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. weekdays.

St. Stephen School Lenten Friday Fish Fry

A fish fry will be offered from 4-7 p.m. every Friday during Lent. Take out and drive-thru service are available, as is a dine-in option. Selections include beer-battered or baked fish, shrimp dinner, scallop dinner, captain’s combo or macaroni and cheese, with a selection of sides. Both full and half orders are available.

•A corned beef and cabbage dinner will be served from 4-7 p.m. March 18 at the post. The meal will feature corned beef, cabbage, potatoes, carrot and dessert. The cost is $14, and the public is welcome.

•“Bangin’ Breakfasts” will be served from 9-10:30 a.m. (or sold out) Saturdays, March 25 and April 29. For $10, you get pancakes, sausage, bacon, eggs, home fries, orange juice, coffee and tea. All you can eat! Mimosas and bloody Mary’s are also available. Volunteers are needed for each date, as well as the night before. Sign up at the bar.

Relay For Life

A “Crockpot Cookoff” will be held from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, March 21, at Ellden’s at River Oaks. Bring your favorite crockpot food or dessert to be entered into the cookoff, or come as a judge. The cost is $5 to enter a crockpot. Best dessert and best food entries will receive a trophy, and entrance fees will be split between both winners’ choice of Relay For Life teams. There is no fee to be a judge!

•Orders are being accepted for Relay For Life’s plant/flower fundraiser. This is a new fundraiser. Go to https://www.flowerpowerfundraising.com/index.php/marketplace/seller/profile/shop/acspany to order. The deadline for ordering is May 15. The Grand Island Relay For Life requests that, when placing your order, please fill in in the "Give Credit for this Sale to: Grand Island Relay For Life" on the ordering page, or use a team name.

Lions Club

The Grand Island Lions Club’s annual spaghetti dinner will be served from 5-8 p.m. Monday, April 24, at River Oaks. The Lions Club has held its fundraising spaghetti dinner annually since the late 1950s.

Support Groups

•Recovery International, which meets from 7-9 p.m. Tuesdays at Trinity United Methodist Church, is a support group for anyone 18 years and older who needs help with anxiety, panic attacks, depression, bipolar disorder, anger management, and fears of all kinds.

•Alzheimer’s and dementia caregivers support meetings are held from 10 a.m. to noon at Bible Fellowship Center, 1135 Baseline Road. All caregivers, including those whose family members have passed away, are welcome to attend. For more information, call Jim Pinckney at 321-439-6028 or Mary Pinckney at 352-217-2311.

Food Assistance

•If you want to donate food or if you need food, check out the GI Little Free Pantry at 1372 Staley Road. Donations of nonperishable food are appreciated. Please place the food in the box. If you have bags to donate for restocking, they can be left in front of the garage. If you need food, there is food available in the box.

•There is also a box to donate or to pick up food at St. Martin-in-the-Fields Episcopal Church, 2587 Baseline Road. That box was recently constructed as an Eagle Scout project. Feel free to drop off or to pick up food, if needed.

•If you or anyone you know needs emergency food assistance, the Neighbors Foundation is ready to help. Please call 716-775-7998. All calls are confidential.
