Deputy County Executive Lisa Chimera presented a proclamation on behalf of Erie County to the team at Upstate New York Poison Center on March 20 to recognize its unwavering commitment to preventing and responding to poison emergencies in a 54-county area of New York state, including Erie County. The proclamation on behalf of Erie County notes the invaluable education and life-saving services that this organization provides.

“Every frantic parent or caregiver who has called the Poison Center number knows that it is lifeline and a source of expert guidance,” Chimera said. “We are so fortunate to have them as a resource for Erie County residents.”

Poison emergencies happen at any time – for children, adults and pets. A priority message for everyone: Add the Poison Center number (1-800-222-1222) as a contact in your phones.

Upstate New York Poison Center is ready, 24/7, with certified specialists in poison information trained in toxicology who gather information about the patient and product, and provide direction on what to do next.
