After reviewing the “New York Forward” guidance related to reopening fitness centers and gyms, Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz is announcing a blanket approval for these facilities to reopen Monday, Aug. 24, under the conditions listed below.

√ Fitness centers and gyms that seek to reopen must review “New York Forward” guidelines and, prior to opening, affirm their business will follow those regulations. Owners and operators must also submit a request form to the Erie County Department of Health so that a public health sanitarian can schedule an inspection at the facility.

√ Both the form for “New York Forward” and the ECDOH inspection request are available on the ECDOH COVID-19 website at www.erie.gov/covid19. Inspections will be scheduled by ECDOH as soon as is practical.

√ ECDOH will issue close orders to facilities that do not demonstrate compliance with “New York Forward” guidance, either during their initial inspection or on future inspections.
