The Buffalo Niagara Chapter of NYS Women is honoring Nakiea S. Cook, MBA, CFEI, the CEO and founder of Buffalo-based NC Accounting & Consulting Solutions, during Black History Month. Her firm offers CFO financial services; bookkeeping and tax services, both personal and business; accounting strategy; and workshops.

A press release noted, “As a Black woman in finance, an industry still dominated by white men, Nakiea said ‘although the trajectory is changing, it still is difficult to get into certain business rooms.’ In her role as a woman business owner, she moves to break barriers and provide a seat at the table for women.

“A priority that is near to her heart is communicating the importance of setting financial goals and understanding personal cash flow to alter inter-generational patterns of poverty. She holds community workshops on financial literacy for business and taxes, personal financial literacy, and computerized business applications.”

Cook’s volunteer work includes the National Black MBA Association, Western New York Chapter, VP operations; National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO) Buffalo Niagara, treasurer; and Alleyway Theatre Inc., treasurer. She is a member of the Buffalo Niagara Chapter of NYS Women Inc., American Business Women’s Association WNY Chapter, Association for Talent Development, Women Inspired through Network & Collaboration, SheCAN, Buffalo Niagara Partnership, and GROW Buffalo.

She was honored with the Ignite Award 2022 by Women’s Business Center at Canisius College and as an Emerging Leader 2018 by Open Buffalo. Cook has a Bachelor of Science in accounting from D’Youville University and a master’s degree in entrepreneurship/entrepreneurial studies from DeVry University.

She founded her company in 2016 and has grown it from a one-person business to its current three employees. Cook is an accountant/auditor, speaker, author, mentor, certified financial educator, and financial coach. Her future plans include employing more staff and associates and purchasing a building to house her own financial services hub.

The press release stated, “Over the past 10 years, more than 100 Western New York women have been honored by the Buffalo Niagara Chapter of New York State Women Inc. as ‘Women in Leadership.’ The common thread running through the efforts of these women is their commitment. It’s a commitment to their families, their work, and our community. This program recognizes their leadership in their business or profession while giving back to the community.

“The Buffalo Niagara Chapter of New York State Women Inc. strives to make a difference in the lives of women by building powerful women personally, professionally and politically.”
