Hochul announces 16 new #VaxtoSchool sites

Gov. Kathy Hochul  announced 16 new #VaxtoSchool pop-up vaccination sites – including some sites open to children 5 years and older – as the state reaches its final week of #VaxtoSchool programming, which concludes on Dec. 14. Hochul and the state's Department of Health urge all eligible New Yorkers, including and especially young New Yorkers, to get fully vaccinated as soon as possible.

"Our #VaxtoSchool program has helped New York students and their families get vaccinated and has been critical to making sure our schools stay open," Hochul said. "We thank the localities and community organizations on-the-ground who worked with us to administer tens of thousands of vaccine doses to school communities statewide. Parents and guardians: visit a #VaxtoSchool site this week to make sure your child is fully vaccinated against COVID-19."

On Sept. 21, Hochul announced a total of 120 sites would take place over a 12-week period statewide. At the conclusion of the 12 weeks, 235 sites have been established. Events were hosted at 98 schools and reached 36 counties statewide, spanning every region of the state. As of Dec. 8, 70% of 12-17-year-old's and 20% of 5-11-year-olds have received at least one vaccine dose.

Operational days for local #VaxtoSchool pop-up vaccination sites for school-aged New Yorkers are below. A community-based medical professional will be available at each site to answer any questions parents and guardians of school-aged New Yorkers may have.

Ages 5-plus

Children can receive the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine, which is available under emergency use authorization for children ages 5 to 15 and is fully approved for those age 16 and older. The other COVID-19 vaccines are not yet authorized or approved for this age group. Parents and guardians of a school-aged New Yorker can also visit vaccines.gov, text a ZIP code to 438829, or call 1-800-232-0233 to find a vaccine location nearby.

Hochul’s team said, “The overall vaccine and booster effort saw major progress in recent days, with 809,136 total vaccine doses administered the week ending Sunday Dec. 5, compared to 538,920 total vaccine doses the prior week. That's first doses, second doses, and boosters to all ages at locations throughout the state.”

The vaccine remains widely available at locations statewide. New Yorkers looking to schedule vaccine appointments for 5-17-year-olds can contact their child's pediatrician, family physician, county health departments, Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs), rural health centers, or pharmacies that may be administering the vaccine for this age group. Parents and guardians can visit ny.gov/VaxforKids, vaccines.gov, text their ZIP code to 438829, or call 1-800-232-0233 to find nearby locations. Parents and guardians can also view and schedule their child's vaccine appointment at a state-run mass-vaccination site here.
