The North Tonawanda Department of Youth, Recreation, Parks & Seniors, in collaboration with Second Ward Alderman Frank DiBernardo, recently announced a COVID-19 vaccine assistance program (CVAP) for North Tonawanda senior citizens who are seeking help with navigating the process of registering to receive a vaccination.

“Our goal is to bridge the gap as best as we can in the process to help seniors who wish to receive the vaccine,” Senior Program and Recreation Supervisor Pam Hogan said. Currently, information and links to register are available at https://www.niagaracounty.com/health/Services/Public-Health-Preparedness/2019-Novel-Coronavirus-COVID-19/COVID-19-Vaccination. However, they said the process can be difficult for seniors who lack internet access or need support in navigating the process.

The North Tonawanda Senior Center (110 Goundry Str.) will be available to help seniors with the preregistration process over the phone from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. weekdays. Those in need of assistance can call 716-695-8582. Additionally, in-office appointments are available from 1-3 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Interested individuals can call to schedule an appointment.

“It’s our duty to serve the needs of our community, and currently there is a vast need for this type of assistance,” DiBernardo said.

Whether calling with basic questions on eligibility, or a need to help with preregistration or transportation to an appointment, North Tonawanda seniors are encouraged to call the Senior Center for assistance.
