Lewiston Christmas Walk expands

The annual Lewiston Christmas Walk weekend will take place Dec. 1-4 in the historic Village of Lewiston.

Center Street is full of holiday spirit! Many of the storefronts will offer special activities, treats, promotions and great shopping sales. The weekend activities start on Thursday, Dec. 1, with the Holiday Market at the Brickyard Brewing Company, and conclude with the Lewiston Christmas Lights Parade at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4, on Center Street.

Key events are as follows with a schedule of events below.

•Thursday, Dec. 1 – Shops are open! Holiday Market at Brickyard Brewing Co., 4-9 p.m.

•Friday, Dec. 2 – Shops are open! Tree-lighting ceremony at Academy Park at 7 p.m.

•Saturday, Dec 3 – Shops are open! Santa and Elves arrival with Skydive the Falls at Academy Park at 11:15 a.m. Santa will be in the Peace Garden from noon to 4 p.m. Activities in village continue through 4 p.m. Free carriage rides from noon to 3 p.m. Petting zoo at Hennepin Park from noon to 4 p.m.

•Sunday, Dec 4 – Shops are open! Free carriage rides from noon to 3 p.m. Petting zoo at Hennepin Park from noon to 4 p.m. Street closed at 3:30 p.m. for the Lewiston Christmas Lights Parade at 5:30 p.m.

“The holiday season isn’t complete without a visit to historic Lewiston during the Christmas Walk,” said Jennifer Pauly, president of the Niagara River Region Chamber of Commerce. “The second annual Christmas Lights parade is a tradition showcasing the village with all of the beautiful lights! Lewiston is truly a magical place during the holiday season!”

Ongoing

•Send your letter to Santa: Get your letters written and delivered to Santa, right here in Lewiston! The red, regulation-sized mailbox on Center Street will deliver your letter directly to the North Pole! The mailbox can be found outside The Spicey Pickle (463 Center St.), You & Me and Hurtin’ 4 Curtains. Any letters addressed to Santa that are placed in the box by Dec. 17 will receive a response before Christmas! This is not a U.S. Postal Service mailbox. Letters will go to the North Pole only! 

•Niagara River Region gift certificates: Looking for the perfect gift to give this holiday season? Give the gift of "local" this year with a Niagara River Region gift certificate. Purchase a gift certificate in any amount and redeem it at more than 65 businesses! Each gift certificate comes in a personalized envelope accompanied by a listing of businesses where it can be redeemed. A complete list of participants is available online at www.NiagaraRiverRegion.com. Gift certificates are available at the Chamber of Commerce office (895 Center St.) or online.

•Lewiston wreath: Take your family photo at the Lewiston wreath, located at Apple Granny Restaurant (433 Center St.). The 7-foot wreath is decorated with fresh greens from Bradt Tree Farm.

Thursday, Dec. 1

•Businesses are open (hours vary).

Lewiston Holiday Market from 4-9 p.m. at the Brickyard Brewing Company: Everyone's favorite indoor holiday market is back at the BBC, and presented by Willow Consulting.

Friday, Dec. 2

•Businesses are open (hours vary). 

Village tree-lighting at 7 p.m. at the Academy Park Alphonso DiMino Memorial Bandshell: The traditional lighting of the holiday tree is paired with entertainment, live music and dance performances. For more information, call 716-754-1990.

Saturday, Dec. 3

•Businesses are open (hours vary). 

Holiday Elves and Santa's arrival at 11:15 a.m. at Academy Park: Santa’s elves arrive with Skydive the Falls! Watch as they descend and greet Santa! Join us as we promenade down Center Street! This event is weather-permitting.

From there:

√ Santa will greet children at the International Peace Garden from noon to 4 p.m.

√ Free carriage rides will be offered from noon to 3 p.m.

√ A free petting zoo will be held at Hennepin Park from noon to 4 p.m.

Sunday, Dec. 4

•Businesses are open (hours vary). 

•The Lewiston Christmas Lights Parade is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. along Center Street. Note: Center Street will be closed to vehicular traffic beginning at 3:30 p.m.

Prior to this, enjoy:

√ Free carriage rides from noon to 3 p.m.

√ A free petting zoo at Hennepin Park from noon to 4 p.m.

Ongoing December Events

•Dec. 10 – “Christmas in the Village of Youngstown”: Stop by the Village of Youngstown Red Brick Village Center for vendors, music and more from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

•Dec. 10 & 11 – Bella Rose Vineyard & Winery, 1243 Ridge Road, Lewiston: “Lewiston Grand Bazaar” from noon to 5 p.m.

•Dec. 10 & 11 – “Christmas at the Farm”: Sanborn Farm Museum (2660 Saunders Settlement Road, Sanborn): This event runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., presented by the Sanborn Business & Professional Association, the Town of Lewiston and Sanborn Area Historical Association. Activities for children ages 2-8; frost a cookie; Santa store; basket auction; Santa; lunch available.

•Dec. 10 & 17 – Old Fort Niagara “Christmas By Candlelight”: At 6:30 p.m., tour Old Fort Niagara and the French Castle, lit entirely by candles. Enjoy holiday decorations by the Youngstown Garden Club. Meet historical characters and witness the firing of the grand feu de joie. Capacity is limited to 250 people per night.

Dec. 11 – Messiah Lutheran Church Lewiston Choraleers holiday concert: Open to the public with a general admission fee of $5. Children ages 12 and under admitted free.

•Dec. 17 – “Light up Sanborn!” Sanborn Farm Museum, 2660 Saunders Settlement Road, Sanborn: At 6:30 p.m., enjoy cookies and snacks, coffee and tea!

Dec. 17 – “Santa Dinner” at Niagara Crossing Hotel: Make your reservation for the “Santa Dinner” at Niagara Crossing from 4-7 p.m. Adults are $25, children ages 4-10 are $10.50, and children under 3 are free. Call to make a reservation: 716-754-9070.

Dec. 31 – New Year’s Eve celebration at the Niagara Crossing Hotel and Spa: From 7 p.m. to 1 a.m., enjoy dinner, music and open bar. The cost is $110 per person. Call to make a reservation: 716-754-9070.
