NYS Health Facilities Association issues statement on New York’s nursing home COVID-19 vaccination program

Stephen Hanse, president and CEO of the New York State Health Facilities Association and the New York State Center for Assisted Living (NYSHFA/NYSCAL), a statewide association representing over 425 long-term care facilities, issued the following statement in response to the rollout of COVID-19 vaccinations to nursing home residents and staff beginning Monday, Dec. 21.

“Dec. 21st marks a significant day in New York’s battle against the COVID-19 pandemic in that beginning Monday and over the next several weeks and months, nursing home residents and staff throughout the state will be receiving COVID-19 vaccinations,” he said. “Nursing homes in New York have been working with both the state and federal governments to individually designate a pharmacy (CVS, Walgreens or a consultant pharmacy) to go into each nursing home on three separate occasions to provide vaccinations to our residents and staff.

“Following nursing homes, assisted living residents and staff are next on the state’s vaccination priority list and will begin receiving COVID-19 vaccinations in early 2021.

“The COVID-19 virus is the greatest public health threat our country has faced in most of our lifetimes, and our nursing home and assisted living residents and dedicated health care workers are on the front line of this pandemic. These vaccinations are critical to safeguard our residents, staff and communities throughout New York.”
