Snow-vember: Erie County provides update, map for state of emergency

Update No. IV: On Saturday afternoon, Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz tweeted, "Based on current conditions and projections, some travel bans may be lifted later this evening.

"At this time the bans shown on this map still remain in effect."

Update No. III: On Saturday morning, Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz tweeted, "Until further notice these travel bans and advisories remain in effect." He also provided this updated travel advisory map:

“Effective immediately (Saturday, Nov. 19, at 6:30 a.m.), the City of Buffalo and Erie County are implementing a travel ban for the entire City of Buffalo based on current and expected weather and road conditions.

“This updated map shows the current travel restrictions for Erie County, with red-shaded areas having a travel ban and yellow-shaded areas having a travel advisory.

“County and city officials are urging residents to follow these travel restrictions to prevent additional blocked roads from vehicle accidents or stranded vehicles, and to allow snow removal crews, tow trucks and first responders to do their work.”

Travel advisory in effect for City of Buffalo, towns of Brant, Colden, Collins, Concord, Holland, North Collins & Sardinia

On Friday morning, Erie County announced the following:

Update No. II: Following continued reviews of road conditions and weather forecasts, Erie County has updated its travel restrictions as of 8 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 18.

The City of Buffalo and the towns of Brant, Colden, Collins, Concord, Holland, North Collins and Sardinia are now under a travel advisory. Link to updated map.

The City of Tonawanda and the towns of Amherst, Clarence, Newstead and Grand Island were shifted to a travel advisory as of 6 a.m.

Due to treacherous road conditions and expected heavy snowfall, a travel ban remains in effect for the remainder of Erie County, as shown on this map.

Update No. I: The State of Emergency from Erie County remains in effect.

The City of Tonawanda and towns of Tonawanda, Grand Island, Newstead, Amherst and Clarence are under a travel advisory as of 6 a.m.

The remainder of Erie County, including the City of Buffalo, remains under a travel ban under further notice. We will continue to reevaluate conditions throughout the day.

Thursday: On Thursday night, with a massive winter storm predicted to cause hazardous road conditions, Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz issued a state of emergency declaration starting at 8 p.m.

Also, as part of the declaration, a travel ban was put in place starting at 9 p.m.
