Obit: John R. 'Jake' Dunn

John R. “Jake” Dunn of Lewiston passed away on May 4, 2022, at his home under the care of his family and Niagara Hospice.

He was born in Niagara Falls, New York, on Nov. 7, 1937, a son of the late William and Mary Mae (McGrath) Dunn.

Jake graduated from Bishop Duffy High School and served with the U.S. Army. He was employed with the City of Niagara Falls for over 25 years, retiring as the supervisor of the wastewater plant in 1998.

Jake was proud of his Irish heritage. As a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, he served as the grand marshal of the St. Patrick's Day parade. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, walking the village and golfing.

Jake was an avid Bills and Notre Dame fan. He is survived by his children: Scott A. (Julia), Kathleen S. and Patrick W. (Jennifer) Dunn; seven grandchildren: Connor (Brittany), Collin, Braden, Shane, Liam, Madison and Jack; his former wife: Kathryn (Swingonski) Dunn; and several nieces and nephews.

Jake was the brother of the late Andrew L. Dunn.

A gathering took place with his family on Sunday, May 8, at the Rhoney Funeral Home in Lewiston, followed by funeral services with the Rev. Stewart M. Lindsay, OSFS, officiating. Interment in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lewiston.

Memorials may be made in his name to Niagara Hospice.
