WNED PBS and the Community Health Center of Buffalo Inc. (CHCB) are partnering on a special event, “Friday Night Fight! Knock Out COVID,” to engage with the community on COVID-19 and “help dispel myths about the virus and the vaccine” on Friday, Feb. 18, on WNED PBS, Facebook, YouTube and Twitter.

The program, hosted by Claudine Ewing of media partner WGRZ-TV, begins at 8 pm with a broadcast of local documentary “Fight for Good: One Body, One Soul,” which “presents candid community voices that offer an effective way to respond to unprecedented difficulties encountered in the current COVID-19 and future pandemics.” Following the documentary, a live discussion will encourage viewers to seek accurate vaccine information and find out where to get a vaccine.

Viewers will be able to submit questions online or call in to ask questions, request information mailed to them about vaccination, and reserve a spot in special vaccination clinics CHCB set up for Saturday, Feb. 19, in Buffalo and Niagara Falls.

“We’re grateful for the opportunity to partner with CHCB to help our community get accurate information about COVID vaccination, in particular for our minority communities who have been hardest hit by the pandemic,” said Tom Calderone, Buffalo Toronto Public Media CEO and president. “We made sure that this is accessible in as many ways as possible – on air, livestream, website, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter – so no matter where people are, they can get this important information.”

The evening includes cohost Francesca Mesiah, NAACP Buffalo branch, co-chair health committee, who will be joined by:

√ Kenny Davis, founder and CEO, Signature Cutz Barbershop

√ Marsha McWilson, McWilson House of Beauty, recording artist

√ Dr. LaVonne Ansari, CEO, Community Health Center of Buffalo

√ Dr. Kenyani Davis, M.D., M.P.H., chief medical officer, Community Health Center of Buffalo

“We can’t do this work alone,” Ansari said. “This partnership with WNED PBS is providing the support we need to communicate accurate information about the vital importance of being vaccinated against COVID. It’s also helping us to share the stories of communities of color to increase awareness and understanding amongst all.”
