It is with deep sadness and many fond memories that we share the loss of Gwendolyn A. Brownlie of Lewiston on June 3, 2022, at the age of 85.

Gwen was born to the Right Rev. Alfred and Eleanor Woolcock on June 18, 1936, in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Canada. She spent her early years in England during the war, and in northern Ontario. The vicar’s daughter met and married James N. Brownlie in St. Catharines, Ontario. Gwen and Jim raised their children in St. Catharines, Oshawa, Ontario, and Bloomfield Hills, Michigan.

Gwen was a long-time Red Cross volunteer in the neonatal unit at St. Joseph Hospital in Pontiac, Michigan. She was in her element with the babies. She also volunteered at the Lewiston museum and library. She enjoyed knitting and crafted beautiful afghans for her children and grandchildren.

Gwen was a long-time social member of the Niagara Falls Country Club. She and Jim enjoyed winters in Punta Gorda, Florida, for several years. Friends and family will always remember her as a warm and caring soul.

Gwen was predeceased by Jim, her husband of 66 years. She is survived by four children: Dianne Brownlie of Lindsay, Ontario; Stephen Brownlie of California City, California; Mark Brownlie (Amanda) of Victoria, British Columbia; and Janice Lorenz (Nick) of High Point, North Carolina; her brother Fr. Byron Woolcock (Susan) of Madoc, Ontario; 10 grandchildren: (Lindsay, Danielle, Branden, Dominique, Alexandria, Claire, Ian, Joey, Jack, and Will); and eight great-grandchildren.

A joint memorial service for Gwen and Jim will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 12, at St. Peter R.C. Church in Lewiston, followed by a reception at the Youngstown Yacht Club. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to a charity of your choice.
