Eight Days of Hope wrapped up its third annual outreach in the Buffalo community on July 23. Hundreds of locals and out-of-towners came together over an eight-day period for one goal – to love and serve the Fillmore District of Buffalo.

During their outreach, 1,300 volunteers and local businesses served the greater Buffalo area by providing free renovations to 197 homes. Projects included porch repair, drywall installation, exterior paint to homes and fences, roofing, demolition, concrete work, tree removal, fence repair and landscaping. Over $1.3 million of work was completed in the district.

Eight Days of Hope also provided updates to Lincoln Park – laying a fresh coat of paint on the splashpad and surrounding fences, painting the building, and cleaning up the trash from the playground area.

“We are so thankful for the support we got from the City of Buffalo – the mayor’s office, Common Council Mitch Nowakowski's office, and so many different departments to allow us to serve hundreds of families. Our goal was to help at least 100 families and to see that goal double was humbling. We’re so thankful for the churches, businesses and companies who came alongside the vision of Eight Days of Hope Buffalo 2022. We’re so excited to see how this continues to grow moving forward,” said Steve Tybor, founder and president of EDOH

Nowakowski said, "Having Eight Days of Hope prioritize the Fillmore District in 2022 made such a positive impact in the community. All week, I spoke with volunteers and residents who were ecstatic about the much-needed repairs and improvements being done to their homes, and even rolled my sleeves up to work on a few projects myself. Even more important than the physical work done was the hope instilled in our neighborhoods that, when we work together, we can improve people's lives block by block, shingle by shingle. I thank the team at Eight Days of Hope and the volunteers from all over the country who gave their time to make this years' service work in the Fillmore District such a success!"

Except for a small staff, Eight Days of Hope is an all-volunteer organization. It serves all people, regardless of race, gender, religion or ethnicity. Visit www.eightdaysofhope.com for more information, to provide financial support, or to volunteer.
