Wegmans Pharmacy and the Erie County Department of Public Health are making it safer and easier for local residents to get their flu shots with two drive-thru community flu shot clinics this fall. During the events, participants may remain in their cars while a Wegmans pharmacist, wearing additional protective gear, administers the vaccination.

All customers are required to wear a mask in their vehicle as they approach a pharmacy associate for their flu shot. There is no need for an appointment or prescription, and in most cases, the fee is covered in full by insurance, so bring those prescription insurance cards.

When and where:

  • Saturday, Oct. 10, 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Wegmans, 601 Amherst St., Buffalo
  • Saturday, Oct. 17, 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Wegmans, 3135 Niagara Falls Blvd., Amherst

A press release from Wegmans read, “With so much uncertainty around the 2020-21 flu season, getting a flu vaccination is more important than ever before. Receiving a flu shot is the best way to protect yourself and those around you from the flu, and helps to conserve potentially scarce health care resources.”

“Flu clinics with Wegmans are part of our community’s proactive efforts to minimize the impact of flu on our health care system this fall and winter. Make the time this fall to get vaccinated so that you have a level of protection against this disease,” Erie County Commissioner of Health Dr. Gale Burstein said. “This is especially important if you are a caregiver or have people in your life who are at a higher risk for complications from the flu. Influenza can cause serious complications for people with chronic health conditions like diabetes and high blood pressure, older people, very young children and pregnant women.”

The flu vaccine is also available at all Wegmans Pharmacies during normal business hours.

“The safety of customers and employees remains a top priority,” said Frank Pietrantoni, Pharm.D., M.B.A., Wegmans’ Pharmacy Buffalo operations manager. “Wegmans has enhanced the sanitation of high-contact touchpoints throughout its stores and increased the frequency of everyday sanitation practices.”

When administering flu shots, pharmacists wear additional protective gear and have minimized the amount of necessary paperwork to streamline the process and reduce touchpoints.

For the third year in a row, Wegmans Pharmacy received the J.D. Power 2020 U.S. Pharmacy Study “Highest in Customer Satisfaction among Supermarket Pharmacies,” award, with a score of 904 (based on a 1,000-point scale).
