Erie County Clerk Michael P. Kearns announced his office, along with the auto bureau branches, is collecting nonperishable food items in an effort to assist the families and community affected by the shooting that took place Saturday in Buffalo.

If anyone would like to assist in this effort, they can donate nonperishable food items such as peanut butter, jelly, cereal, crackers, pasta, rice, canned goods (vegetables, soup, etc.); as well as any paper and personal care items: shampoo, toothpaste, deodorant, bath and hand soaps, napkins, paper towels, toilet paper, tissues, laundry detergent. No glass, please.

“I ask anyone who is coming into one of our auto bureau branches or to the clerk’s office to consider bringing a nonperishable food item(s) or paper products with them to support the many households who will have a difficult time getting to their local grocery store due to the senseless tragedy that took place this past weekend,” Kearns said. “When any of our neighbors need help, this community shows up, and many are in need. I invite everyone who can to participate.”

These essential items will be delivered to Buffalo Fathers and Buffalo Peace Makers community organizations for distribution to the residents and families in the Masten District and surrounding areas over the next several weeks.
