On April 21, a second class of certified nurse assistants graduated from a free, six-week training course made possible through a collaboration between Niagara Falls Housing Authority and Orleans/Niagara BOCES. The graduation coincided with NFHA's campaign kick-off gala held at the Niagara Falls Convention Center. April graduates were Amber Harris, Jamie Gallant, Kathy Ball-McClain, Monique Coble, Tabarak Alqudse and Lisa Pecoraro Ware. They were taught by Roxanne Smith.

Funding through a Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield WNY grant covered tuition, books, materials, uniforms, transportation and child care, plus a paid bonus upon completion.

These recurring classes are held at the Orleans / Niagara BOCES Workforce Development Center at 606 Sixth St., behind the post office in Niagara Falls. Classes run four days per week for six weeks and include classroom training, lab practice, and supervised clinical experiences in a skilled nursing facility.

This free training program is currently in its third consecutive class. The next one is starting on May 31. Seats are still available. For information or to register, call Kathy Dix at 716-731-6800, ext. 4445.
