Niagara County Department of Health promotes upcoming #VaxToSchool clinics

The Niagara County Department of Health will participate in Gov. Kathy Hochul’s #VaxToSchool initiative at upcoming COVID-19 vaccination clinics. The program's goal is to get more young people vaccinated to further curb the spread of coronavirus and make schools safer. The #VaxToSchool campaign includes promotional material and a new Instagram channel, @VaccinateNY, aimed at educating school-aged New Yorkers and their families about the importance of vaccination.

Every child aged 12-17 who lives in New York and gets their Pfizer COVID-19 shot at a NCDOH clinic will receive a gift card after each shot (while supplies last).

“Kids can catch COVID-19 and spread it to others,” Public Health Director Daniel J. Stapleton said. “The CDC recommends that individuals get vaccinated even if they have already had COVID-19, because they can be infected more than once. While your child may have some short-term immunity after recovering from COVID-19, we don’t know how long this protection will last.

“I urge all eligible children 12 years of age and older to get vaccinated against COVID-19, so we can maintain a safe classroom experience and protect their health and the health of other students, teachers and staff in our schools.”

Director of Public Health Planning and Emergency Preparedness Tracy Fricano Chalmers said, “Although NCDOH has conducted vaccination clinics at BOCES weekly since mid-September, the timing of the #VaxToSchool clinics is critical. We know families will be traveling and getting together for the holidays, and vaccination offers the best protection against COVID-19.”

The #VaxToSchool clinics will feature gift card incentives and a family-friendly Halloween theme with goody bags.

In addition to Pfizer, single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccinations will be available for individuals 18 years of age and older.

“We encourage people to visit our website to register in advance; however, walk-ins are welcome,” Fricano Chalmers said. “The registration links for the #VaxToSchool clinics and other information regarding COVID-19 vaccination are available on our website at https://www.niagaracounty.com/health/Vaccine.
