Molecular (PCR) testing will be offered as part of the program

Programs will be custom developed to best meet the needs of each school

On Tuesday, WellNow Urgent Care announced its new offering of on-campus COVID-19 testing clinics for universities and colleges. Programs will offer molecular (PCR) COVID-19 testing administered to students, faculty and school staff by WellNow professionals. Each program will be custom developed to meet the needs and testing requirements outlined by the school.

“With colleges and universities set to open their doors, providing easily accessible forms of COVID-19 testing to students, faculty and staff is key to help control the spread of the virus,” said WellNow Urgent Care President John Radford, M.D. “Going to college should be a positive experience but, due to the pandemic, it is now a health concern. By partnering with schools to offer testing, we’re aiming to help ease some of the fears faced by families and the community alike.”

Programs can range from single-day clinics to multi-week schedules that allow for regular testing within campuses. Colleges and universities that are interested in developing a testing program can reach out to WellNow directly at [email protected] to learn more.

“Colleges are facing a lot of uncertainty as they begin to establish what their reopening process looks like and, as a health care provider, we want to help them,” said WellNow Urgent Care Director of Occupational Health Operations Tim Birklin. “Our team at WellNow is ready, willing and able to assist schools in developing a testing protocol that fits their unique needs.”

Currently, three Western New York schools have partnered with WellNow for on-campus COVID-19 testing: Daemen College, Niagara University and D’Youville College. Clinic dates for each school will be shared with respective students and faculty – with the number of individuals tested, in August, ranging from 150-600.

The molecular (PCR) test, like a flu test, requires a nasopharyngeal swab to determine if a patient has an active COVID-19 infection. Patients interested in receiving a blood antibody serology test can visit a WellNow Urgent Care center nearest them. Additional COVID-19 information can be found online at WellNow.com/covid-19.

All WellNow locations continue to provide timely treatment for non-life-threatening injuries and illnesses, such as sprains, strains, colds and the flu, while also providing on-site X-rays, lab testing and physicals. Patients are treated on a walk-in basis, but may also check-in online or view up-to-date facility wait times directly on the company’s homepage. The company also offers telehealth visits through their online platform. WellNow welcomes most insurance, including Medicare, Medicaid, Fidelis and Veterans Affairs TriWest. A full list of services and hours can be found online at wellnow.com/services.

WellNow has more than 40 WellNow Urgent Care locations in New York and Illinois. Founded in 2011 by Radford, WellNow Urgent Care is one of the fastest-growing providers of urgent medical care.
