Niagara County has announced changes to the qualifications process for Niagara County correction officers, including increasing the entry-level pay to $23.83 per hour. The current pay scale range for correction officers goes up to $33.85. The county is also waiving its requirements that only Niagara County residents can take the civil service exam (those hired would have six months to relocate to Niagara County), and extending the deadline to register for the civil service exam to June 3. The test will be given June 25.

“Like many employers across our region, we are doing our best to cast a wide net and attract a larger pool of qualified applicants,” Niagara County Human Resources Director Peter Lopes said. “We are quickly exhausting our civil service lists for correction officers, and have positions available. For those interested in a career in law enforcement, this is a tremendous opportunity.”

Niagara County Sheriff Michael Filicetti said correction officers are an important component of keeping local communities safe.

“The work of correction officers can be challenging,” he said. “They play a critical role in keeping our community safe by maintaining order inside the walls of our correctional facility. If you are an individual with strong integrity and character, have empathy and an interest in law enforcement, come join the dedicated team at the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office.”

Niagara County Civil Service Personnel Officer Mal Needler said those who want more information or wish to apply should go to https://niagara-portal.mycivilservice.com/exams
