Registration opens for Independent Health Foundation's 2022 'Kids Run' in Delaware Park

Register by May 20 to receive a race bib, timing chip, race tips

Returning to an in-person event to kick-off healthy activities all summer long, the Independent Health Foundation will again host its “Kids Run” at Delaware Park. The event is set for 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, June 4.

This free annual event, sponsored by Wegmans, encourages families to start the summer in a fun, healthy way with a mini-dash for children ages 2 to 5, and a 1.8-mile family run/walk for all ages.

The run at Delaware Park has a limited number of participants, while those more comfortable participating remotely are encouraged to do so. Registration for both in-person and at-home events is available at www.kidsrunbuffalo.com.  

Participants who register by May 20 will be mailed an official race bib, activity sheets, and race tips. Competitive runners, ages 6 to 18, will receive a timing chip to track individual race results provided by Score This!!! They are eligible for trophies in a range of age categories.

Runners are asked to be on-site by 8:30 a.m. for entertainment and activities, with a 9 a.m. group stretch, and then races starting at 9:30 a.m. Awards will be given to all race participants while supplies last.

In addition to the run, the foundation is also providing a sensory-friendly option for families with special needs.

To celebrate the foundation’s 30th anniversary, there will be prizes and giveaways throughout the event. After the races, families can enjoy healthy snacks and the award ceremony.

“We’re excited to be back in person at Delaware Park for this year’s ‘Kids Run,’ and also offer the at-home run, allowing families to participate at a convenient time over the weekend, at their own pace,” said Carrie Meyer, executive director of the Independent Health Foundation. “We hope this event motivates families to get out and be active this summer, and we ask all of our participants to share their experience with us through our website or Facebook page.”
