WellNow Urgent Care has completed its purchase of 860 Center St. Once built and operational, the now-vacant parcel – situated in between APlus/Sunoco and Lewiston Family Dental – will provide another quick-care treatment option for residents.

Public Relations Manager Annie Keller said, “It’s still early in the process, but we anticipate a 2023 opening for our upcoming center in Lewiston.”

She continued, “We’re very excited to be bringing convenient care to the Lewiston community. We recognized that there was a need and opportunity to provide local residents with greater access to quality care with shorter wait times, walk-in service and lower costs than the traditional emergency room. As most people have experienced at some point, injuries and illnesses tend to happen at the most inconvenient times, including evenings and weekends. WellNow Urgent Care is open seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., with extended hours available at some locations. We also offer virtual care 24/7, so patients can receive the care they need anytime.

“Our goal is to make it easier for patients to get the treatment they need quickly, close to where they live and work, and get back to their lives instead of waiting for hours in an emergency room or delaying care.

“The WellNow Urgent Care in Lewiston will provide timely walk-in treatment for a wide range of non-life-threatening injuries and illnesses such as sprains, burns, cuts, lacerations, colds and flu, strep throat, sinus infections, allergies and more. We also provide on-site X-rays and physicals. COVID-19 PCR testing with next-day results is available at all WellNow locations. Most insurance is accepted, and we offer competitive self-pay rates for patients without insurance.”

Architect and Historic Preservation Commission member Jim Fittante presented the business proposal on behalf of WellNow.

The project was discussed at more than a half-dozen HPC, Planning Board and Village Board of Trustees meetings, from December 2021 through this month.

A major concession asked for and approved by the applicant was not using a secondary road, leading from this property at 860 Center, extending behind the gas station/mini-mart, and extending onto North Ninth Street.

In addition, Fittante said fencing and shrubbery would be installed on the north side to shield neighbors on Onondaga Street.

Proposed hours of operation at this branch are 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily.

Upon approving the proposal on Feb. 21, Mayor Anne Welch said, “I think it’s a great addition to the village. … There’s no competition with any of the other businesses. I think it’s really needed in the village.”

The parcel has been vacant since April 2012, when the building that now houses the Niagara River Region Chamber of Commerce office was transported from the site and moved across the street to Academy Park.

Emery Simon formerly owned the almost 1-acre site.

“I think it's going to be a good fit for the village,” Simon said. “I am in the mode of trying to sell everything I have, in businesses, to retire. I think it's a good fit for the village. I think they’ll be a good business, a good taxpayer. I think it's got nothing but good written all over it.”
